New Metro Ticket Machines Launched

Nexus, who own & operate the Tyne & Wear Metro, launched the first brand new ticket machine this week.

The new machine, which accepts cash along with debit & credit cards was launched at Palmersville station in North Tyneside and will be followed by all stations over the next 12 months.

The roll-out of new machines is part of a £25m scheme to improve Metro’s ticketing system, including ticket barriers at 13 major stations and the POP smartcard which is similar to the Oystercard in London will be launching soon. The scheme is set to update technology which is more than 30 years old.
