Metro Increase Fares In January

Passengers on the Tyne & Wear Metro are set to suffer increase fares from January 2012.

Higher-than-inflation rises will hit the Tyne and Wear Metro, although train owner Nexus says they are below average national ticket increases.

Metro Zone 1 single tickets increase by 10p, all other single and day tickets will rise by 20p whilst child tickets will also rise by 10p.

Nexus says it has kept the price increases as low as possible but needs some increases as a result of rising costs, particularly electricity. The new fares will see around an extra £900,000 worth of income for Nexus.
