Public Sector Strike Means No Shields Ferry Service

Nexus have announced that if the planned strike goes ahead on Wednesday 30th November 2011, then the Shields Ferry which runs between the ferry landings at North Shields & South Shields will be cancelled all day with no services operating.

The cancellation of the Shields Ferry service is a result of a day of industrial action by members of unions employed by Nexus. The unions are in dispute with the Government over public sector pension reform.

Additionally ALL Metro services on the Tyne & Wear Metro are cancelled, only a handful of Nexus Travelshops will be open and Traveline will only operate with a very small number of staff to answer calls.

Nexus Head of Communications, Huw Lewis, said in a statement on the Nexus website: “We are sorry for the inconvenience caused and can assure customers we have explored every option for a partial service, but this is not possible.”
