Strikes Tomorrow Go Ahead Means No Metro Or Shields Ferry
It looks like the planned Public Union strikes are set to go ahead across the UK tomorrow which means that Nexus who own the Tyne & Wear Metro are unable to operate ANY trains tomorrow (Wednesday 30th November 2011) or run any services on the Shields Ferry. On this date NO services will run all day from start of service until midnight, however services will operate as scheduled on Tuesday 29th November (Today) and on Thursday 1st December 2011.
The cancellation of all Metro services is a result of a day of industrial action by members of unions employed by both Nexus and DB Regio, which operates trains and stations on behalf of Nexus. The unions are in dispute with the Government over public sector pension reform.
Arriva & Go North East will run additional buses along core routes but NO Metro Replacement bus service will be operating. Go North East will run additional buses along services 1, X90, X3, 27 and 56 between 0700 & 1900.
Additionally Traveline will only operate with a very small number of staff and passengers are advised not to call on this date if possible, we recommend checking the TravelNorthEast.co.uk website for the information or tweet us @travelnortheast
Nexus Head of Communications, Huw Lewis, said in a statement on the Nexus website: “This is a dispute between the Government and the public sector unions and it is not one of our making. It does mean that there will not be any Metro services in operation on Wednesday November 30. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused and can assure customers we have explored every option for a partial service, but this is not possible.”
