Ongoing Greek Air Traffic Restrictions Causing Flight Disruption

Greek Air Traffic Controllers across Greece are currently causing major problems this month to flights to/from Greek airports.

Air traffic controllers in Greece are currently participating in ‘work to rule’ industrial action where they will restrict the amount of planes able to access Greek airspace, they have already walked out on 4-hour & 24-hour strikes where no planes could land or take off from any Greek airport and closed two-thirds of Greek airspace last week without even telling anyone, which caused major disruption to most flights in & out of Greek airports especially Athens & Heraklion (Crete).

The changes are often given at short notice which may result in passengers experiencing some delays and cancellations at very short notice, the situation is ongoing with a rumoured 48-hour full strike being planned for Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th October 2011.
