Easyjet Ends Fee-Free Bookings

Passengers are to pay more for flights with easyJet who are making everyone pay card fees when booking flights.

Until now, passengers were charged when paying by a credit or debit card, apart from Visa Electron which was free now even if you pay using this you'll be charged.

The move comes after the Government announced plans last month to ban firms using "hidden" credit and debit card surcharges to ramp up the price of flights from the end of this year. As part of its announcement, the Government said businesses can only charge customers what it costs them to process the transaction.

Consumer lobby group Which? estimates that when paying by debit card, the cost to process the transaction is 10p to 20p. Yet Easyjet charges at least £9.

The fee for paying by a debit card was £8 but from now, you'll be charged £9 including when paying by Visa Electron which was free. Whilst if you choose to pay by credit card you'll be charged £9 instead of the old £8 plus £4.95 or 2.5% (whichever is greater).
