Founder Of Arriva Dies
The founder of one of the UK's largest bus companies, Arriva, has died.
Sir Tom Cowie passed away yesterday at the age of 89, after creating the now multinational company out of a Motor Garage in Sunderland in 1948 (following a re-launch from his fathers company in 1938).
The company sold motor cycles back then and has since grown to become one of the biggest transport operators in the UK & further afield with bus, coach, train, tram and waterbus operations in 12 countries across Europe, employing more than 47,500 people and services over 1.5 billion passenger journeys each year.
